4 pm, Jan.29: BULLETIN: Security Certificate Detainee under house arrest,  Mohamed Harkat, has just been re-arrested at his home in Ottawa South. Dozens of officers came down to arrest him on breach of bail conditions, claiming that Sophie's mother did not live at the residence, even though the conditions state that someone -- either Sophie or her mother -- must be with him 24-7. Sophie wonders if this is a ploy to make the government's case for C-3 stronger. She will be contacting the media shortlyAbolish the Security Certificate

Our kinder, gentler world
About Tasers, Rudy's false 9-11 image, Bush's mastery of newspeak, using nukes to prevent the use of nukes, SPP-ing and RFID-ing North Americans, plus JNF-ing the Canadian Parliament.

It's too bad an Air Canada pilot lost it this week and had to be hospitalized in Ireland, but there was a lesson in it for the RCMP and here it is:
From the Globe and Mail... he was forcibly removed from the plane by crew and an off-duty member of the Canadian Armed Forces.
No taser needed.

Speaking of losing it, Rudy Giuliani got a surprise in Florida.  The New York firefighters followed him there to assure Floridians that Rudy wasn't the 9-11 hero he made himself out to be, and that his guts are pretty much hated. His sins are worse than what they're saying - they think he was incompetent and dishonest as New York mayor, missing that he was probably complicit in 9-11 - but this is pretty good.

From Bush's State of the Union massage, we learn that the Afghan war has been so successful the US is sending another 3200 troops to keep it that way.  He has such a rosy view I'd sort of like to find out what he's on.

He even managed to put a sunny glow on what he plans for the people of Iran while taking control of the Persian Gulf:
"Our message to the people of Iran is clear: We have no quarrel with you. We respect your traditions and your history. We look forward to the day when you have your freedom."
Those of you still alive and able to see and walk, he means.

It's hardly coincidental that some American military advisors have come out with a report saying that NATO should be prepared to nuke preemptorily.  A strange language they speak:
"The first use of nuclear weapons must remain in the quiver of escalation as the ultimate instrument to prevent the use of weapons of mass destruction."
It's another, more delirious version of "War is Peace"(ZMag article).

They're saying that we must use weapons of mass destruction to prevent the use of weapons of mass destruction.  Is that a somewhat wordy oxymoron, or what?

The truth is, however, that there isn't much left to prevent, since most countries now have nuclear capability.  You can tell which ones, because they're the ones not being picked on. For instance, the proof that Saddam didn't have weapons of mass destruction was that the US felt confident to attack it.  Likewise, the proof that Iran doesn't have them is that they are being singled out for a preemptive strike.

Problem is, there might be some nuclear countries that will support Iran.  A convincing pretext is going to have to be manufactured that will make a swift (though long planned) "defence" plausible.  Israel would be the best country to do that since being picked on is Israel's schtick, even though it too has nukes.  Then the US could jump in to support "tiny" Israel.

Bush talked quite a bit about "faith based" charities supplanting government sponsored social programs, and even used the term "armies of compassion". Wow, Orwell would be jealous of that one!

Suddenly, out of the blue like a vocal tic, came this short non sequitur:
"And tonight I'm pleased to announce that in April we will host this year's North American Summit of Canada, Mexico, and the United States in the great city of New Orleans."
Then, as if it hadn't happened, he immediately launched into how America can no longer afford "entitlement" spending - you know, Social Security and health care - and revealed his idea of immigration policy - to build walls, point guns, and allow people in only long enough to harvest crops for slave wages (or forced labour?) and then get the hell back to their hovels.

But he made it sound so much nicer than that.

Maybe it wasn't a tic; maybe it was a hint about what's to come for Canada after the next SPP summit.  It's true you know, there's not going to be money for a lot of things if we spend it all on war.

If you're worried about the effects of the SPP, there's nothing to stop you from emailing Stephen Harper - or all the MPs if you like - about it.  Just say "Stop the SPP" or "Quit making deals with Bush behind our backs".  You don't have to be fancy.  Sneaking around behind the public's back isn't high class either.

Farmers are going to be writing and hollering; you can bank on that.  The Wheat Board is in danger.  CTV: [Western farmers] say it's the start of a slope that could see the government do away with marketing boards, medicare and the CBC.

Don't be fooled by the "Security and Prosperity" jargon. It's all about making North America secure for corporate exploitation of the micro-chipped population.

It's humourous the way the BC government talks about RFID chips in drivers licences and "protection of privacy" in the same breath.  Oh, it's 1984, allright.

There are lots of people these days skilled at making bad things appear good.  For instance, I  just received a copy of an invitation sent to MPs and Senators to a free and sumptuous luncheon entitled: "A Taste of Israel - in honour of Israel's 60th Anniversary" to be held Feb. 5 in Parliament's west block.

Nat nice?  There's one expensive lunch the tax payer won't get soaked for. Or won't we?  It's sponsored by the Jewish National Fund which touts itself a charitable organization but uses donations to buy up Jews-only real estate on land confiscated from Palestinians - and apparently also to lavishly lobby the Canadian government on behalf of Israel. All tax deductible of course, so that's how the rest of us pay.

Israel's 60th anniversary coincides with 60 years of Nakba.

And as long as we don't speak up about the JNF, we're complicit in Israeli Apartheid. Sorry, I don't have Bush's medicaments or the JNF's talent for PR, so am unable to put a pleasant spin on that.
