In "the crucible of war"

America needs a war president and by golly it's going to get one if the power behind the throne remains stronger than that of the people.  In both Canada and the US, neither the left nor the right is trusted, but the people in their desperation, instead of en masse demanding decent government, are looking for saviours where there are none.

From the BBC (emphasis mine):
Former President George Bush Senior has endorsed John McCain in his bid to be the Republicans' presidential nominee.

Mr Bush described Mr McCain's character as "forged in the crucible of war" and said he would carry conservative values to the White House in November's vote.
[...]
He is considered almost certain to be the eventual Republican nominee, having already won 843 of the 1,191 delegates he needs to secure the nomination.

However, Mr McCain has not been popular with more conservative Republicans because of his relatively moderate views on abortion, immigration reform and gay marriage.
By "more conservative" the evangelical Right is politely described.  Anyone who backs Ron Paul is in league with that element. They don't like "godless" foreigners and they hate gays, and some of them are ready to murder abortionists - oddly enough because "God hates murder"!  They don't think Bush is Christian (tough) enough.

Some of them, like Alex Jones for instance, also postulate that equality for women is part of America's "moral meltdown" and was (is) a combined CIA/Jewish/communist plot. His website uses the psychologically disturbed Henry Mackow as a source for that conclusion.

Makow isn't a racist, no, no, but he does think there is a secret agenda behind the Civil Rights Movement.  He proved he wasn't sexist or racist by importing a submissive Asian bride.  Yeah.

Ron Paul doesn't have a prayer of getting the Republican nomination, but in the meantime he's managing to distract a lot of people from taking concrete action against the status quo.  He definitely wants to close America's borders, leaving the door wide open to persecution of its current minorities, but although he is personally against abortion and gay rights, he's going to pass the buck and make these into state issues rather than federal ones.  So there would be states closed to gays, for sure, and the Ku Klux Klan types who don't like anyone different from their exterior selves could become more visible and active in some states.  In other words, they would decide the kind of murder that God approves of.

Paul also wants to dismantle medicare and the federal oversight of education.  As a doctor, it makes him feel good to allow poor people to owe him money, and no doubt he's all for "faith based" and home schooling.

I thought that the Canadian Action Party might be worth a look here in Canada as an alternative to our major parties.  I was pleased that they supported 9-11 truth and were opposed to the SPP (NAU).  I thought they might be what is termed "progressive", but I was wrong to make that assumption.

More and more the Ron Paul - Alex Jones connection has become apparent, and the CAP seem to be taking their cues from Alex Jones, whose opposition to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory, for example, is barely half a hair's breadth this side of native anti-Semitism.

By native, I mean embedded in the type of Christianity that judges Jews on the basis of their rejection of Jesus.  Sometimes support for Palestinians can be rooted in that type of anti-Semitism, and it's important to watch out for that.

Two of Jones' associates, Aaron Russo and Henry Makow, both avid Ron Paul supporters, converted from Judaism to what appears to be that brand of Christianity, adopting a superior attitude to their fellow Jews.

In fact, Connie Fogal eventually had to issue an apology to her mailing list for having referenced Makow, expressing regret for his sexist and anti-Semitic views:

Subject: Apologies and Disassociation from Dr Henry Makow

Connie Fogal, leader of the Canadian Action Party  deeply regrets the broadcast of the article by Dr Henry Makow called Canada Pimps Its Girls to big Pharma.

My deepest apologies to everyone for the broadcast of the Makow article on Gardasil. It was the worst article we could have used to profile the Gardasil issue, and has harmed our campaign against Gardasil as well as the reputation of CAP.  CAP  does does not share the views of Dr Makow on anti-feminism  nor anti-semitism.

CAP has been following the Gardasil issue for months.  On learning recently that Canada has moved more quickly than any other country to a mass Gardasil vaccination program for our girls across the nation, CAP felt an urgency to profile our opposition to this vaccine. The article was not properly vetted.  I have to take full responsibility for that because ultimately the buck stops with me, no matter what the delegation of work.

I can do no more than apologize and promise once again to do a better job at vetting broadcast material. The fact that our resources are so limited and the task we attempt is so great does not relieve us and me in particular of the duty to perform better.

The article has been removed from our website. This was a time when our system moved too quickly compared to our usual concern that it does not move quickly enough.
What I don't understand is why all of these so-called 9-11 truthers are supporting Ron Paul when he absolutely came out against them.

Have a look at these videos where he betrays the majority of his followers:

"I don't endorse anything they say and I don't believe that."

"Absolutely not!"

In this video, he actually tries to muddy the waters by suggesting Iraq was behind it; and by expressing support of the 9-11 Commission's Report.

Yet here is the CAP's leader, Connie Fogal - a professed 9-11 truther - on the subject of Ron Paul.

Basically, she thinks that the election of Ron Paul in the States would be good for Canada. Which explains why there were so many "Vote Ron Paul" signs at the Canadian SPP protest in Montebello - they came there with Fogal.

The CAP must have gotten quite a few complaints about all the American sources of info on its site because there are a lot more Canadian links there now than there once seemed to be - but links to Alex Jones and Aaron Russo persist although I didn't see a direct reference to Ron Paul.  Strangely, their section on War has only one Canadian source, and the rest is all American, with links to sites that support Ron Paul.

It's unsettling to think that the choice for Americans (and therefore Canadians) is between a war mongering fascist who has a rep, so far, of being "soft" on civil rights, and an isolationist who will allow America to slide back to the 50's, when there was no health care system, and when people who went to church were automatically assumed to be "godfearing" and therefore good while those who spent Sunday morning in bed or gone fishing were automatically assumed to be untrustworthy, and women and foreigners kept their place if they knew what was good for them.

It's even more unsettling to hear that the latter choice could be good for Canada.

From Wikipedia: A crucible is a cup-shaped piece of laboratory equipment used to contain chemical compounds when heating them to very high temperatures.

That's what we're in allright, just like Mr. Frog.  One has to be constantly testing the water.
