Chickens in the Yard
Scotland Yard obstructs justice by deferring to Israel, Palestinians discuss flying Israel's coop by declaring themselves a state, and Iran ruffles US feathers with its oil bourse
Guardian: Terror police feared gun battle with Israeli general  Scotland Yard allowed a suspected war criminal to escape Britain because officers feared an attempt to stop him would lead to a gun battle at Heathrow airport, police documents seen by the Guardian reveal.
The police stood back and allowed Doron Almog, charged with war crimes against Palestinians, to be warned not to disembark, and the plane took off back to Israel.
Top detectives were told that police routinely boarded flights, but were not sure if they could do so without the permission of the airline.
Get that?  "Top" dicks weren't sure what to do!  Maybe they're just playing dumb.  Ya think?

Then they claimed they didn't have time to get instructions - the plane was there for two hours.

Then they claimed they were worried about public safety.  The biggest lie of all.  Ever seen how they worry about public safety when they do decide to chase something down?  Even the Ottawa cops running through a crowd chasing guys with pieces of chalk in their hands didn't worry about knocking over grannies - all for a chunk of chalk!

Who did the plainclothes British cops worry about when they chased poor Jean Charles De Menezes through the Tube station until they downed him and emptied a gun into his head?  If he had been a bomber he could have let go at any time during that race!

Then they claimed they were worried about officer safety.  They didn't want to send them in not knowing what they would confront.  Yet British inspectors board foreign ships every day without knowing what kind of resistance they may encounter, and in fact impounded 99 of them in 2004.

Planes are impounded all over the world, and in Britain for the smallest and largest of reasons:

Kyrgyz plane impounded at Islamabad Airport
Hawaii: Planes impounded for non-payment of landing fee
Ireland impounds Turkish owned plane
Rwanda impounds mysterious plane
Zimbabwe impounds Boeing carrying alleged mercenaries
Jordan impounds Iraqi plane during Gulf War 1990-91
Both Belgium and Canada impound Ukraine planes
Air Scandic plane impounded in England
Cabotage Regulations (the right of a country to control aircraft within its territory).

But then, what do you know - we find that the possible "reaction in the British Jewish Community" was a factor!  The Israeli attache was warned, and was allowed to board the plane to warn Almog.

Oh, don't tell me!  Are Zionists calling the shots in England?  Isn't that called obstruction of justice?  I'll answer that with another question: do foxes raid chicken coops?
Almog said: "As a soldier and a general, I have never committed a crime. Many times I have saved Palestinian lives by risking my life and the lives of my soldiers."
It's more likely that Almog saved Israel's international reputation occasionally by restraining himself from larger ventures than unwarranted house demolitions, and the overkill of dropping one ton bombs on vehicles.  But my reply to Almog would be, "Tell it to the judge."
The actions of the Israeli army in Gaza were to prevent terrorist attacks against Israel, he said.
Nice system Almog has going: First call all Palestinians "terrorists" and then you kill as many as possible whether they've done anything or not.  Above all, ignore the concept of state terrorism.
Raji Sourani, the director of the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights, said: "Failure to respect the rule of law and to pursue those responsible for attacking civilians will undermine the respect for international law which we do badly need if we are to have peace in our region. Until such time we will be faced with the rule of the jungle."
Strangely, the comments of the Palestinian human rights director give an insight into suicide bombing.  Justice is meted out to the perpetrator by the act itself.

No, they don't do it so they can have sex with 72 heavenly virgins.  That's a fantasy western males like to jealously savour. There are female suiciders too, and they aren't all gay.  In most cases it's done out of despondency over the loss of a close relative or friend, over guilt about still being alive when people they love are dead, and a frantic, but misplaced desire to stop the carnage.

Anyone who has seen the British TV series Britz can better ascertain the motives of a suicider, although I don't think it explains the transit bombings.

Thanks to Ron Saba for forwarding the Guardian link.  Ron comments: Please note: this wanted war criminal, Israeli Major General Doron Almog, is a member of the Advisory Board of HESEG, a registered "charity" in Canada.

HESEG is the reason for the Chapters/Indigo boycotts.

The implications of the following article give me the shivers.

VOA: Senior Palestinian Calls for Kosovo-Like Independence  Abed Rabbo says Israel is trying to buy time until the end of the year by talking about procedural issues in peace talks and avoiding the real issues.  He says Palestinians should look to Kosovo as a model and declare independence as an alternative to peace talks.

Don't get me wrong, I don't know why the Palestinians didn't just go ahead and declare themselves a state a long time ago.  Israel did it in 1948, and the UN ratified that.

It's Israel's delaying by nitpicking over details that gives me the willies.  How far does it plan to go in its destruction of Gaza?  How little of the territories does it plan to leave for the formation of a state?  I suspect very little or none.

Thanks to "Beesting" for this link, which makes clear what is the real problem the US has with Iran:
IHT: Iran launches oil products bourse with petrochemical deal  Iran has already registered for another oil bourse, in which it has said it hopes to trade oil in Euros instead of dollars, to reduce any American influence over the Islamic Republic's economy.
For the zillionth time, it has nothing to do with anything Iran's eccentric president has to say about Israel, or with his nuclear aspirations.  Those are just the excuses. The US knows it can't get cannon fodder to fight for control of the world's markets

Here's an article that naively suggests the US is worried about Iran's nuclear activities, but goes on to point out how easily all wars could have and can be averted: Busines 24-7: Time to do business with Iran
... the Iranian people have commercial and trading priorities high on their agenda, and that these should be cultivated to bring Iran back to the centre of the world economic system.
Trouble is, the US (and therefore Canada and Britain, and now Mexico) doesn't want anybody on any kind of an equal footing with itself.
