Forrest Gump was wrong
Life is like a sandbox - full of scrapping toddlers who'd sooner smash their own toys than share them

Human rights, water rights, even the survival of the honey bee, are all endangered by self-defeating greed - and leaders with very little going on upstairs.

Human rights

Nasty games continue in the midst of the Israel vs Palestine so-called peace talks that we keep hearing about but never from.

It was left to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to state the obvious.  From the Globe and Mail:
Mr. Lavrov told reporters that Russia was "very much worried" about Israeli construction on land the Palestinians claim for a future state.

Two weeks ago, Israel announced it would build more than 1,000 housing units in the West Bank settlement of Givaat Zeev and in the East Jerusalem settlement neighbourhood of Pisgat Zeev.
Lavrov seems to have helped Abbas re-locate his vocal chords:
"Security and peace will not be realized with the continuation of the settlement activities, the establishment of roadblocks around cities and villages, the military escalations in the Gaza Strip and the continuing military operations in the cities and towns of the West Bank."
Abbas needs to defy Israel and the US and strike a deal with Hamas if he doesn't want to be seen as another Dahlan. And if the west believes in democracy it should leave it to the Palestinian voters to decide what kind of government they want.

Canada, having lost its moral compass completely, is slavering after Israel like rutting dogs. The final two paragraphs of the Globe article contain a cryptic message for Canadians:
Canadian Minister of Public Safety Stockwell Day was also in Israel, and signed a declaration with Israeli Minister of Public Security Avi Dichter in Tel Aviv to enhance co-operation to stop organized crime and terrorism.

The two countries agreed yesterday to share information about common threats, such as border security, illegal immigration and organized crime. Mr. Day said in a statement the deal is a way for Canada and Israel to better protect their citizens.
Watch out for government declarations that contain the obfuscations "enhance", "cooperate" and "share".  Reading between the lines I would have to say this is about Canada learning how to become as militarized as Israel the better to enrich the defence industries.  Gee, I hope the US puts us on the same donation list they've got Israel on.

Water rights

It's not hard to figure out why the Canadian government doesn't want to sign onto the concept that access to water is a basic human right.  After all, what is it that Israel wants in the south of Lebanon and what is it supposed to be managing the supply of in Gaza, but is not.

Besides, Canada wants to sell off its own water rights to the highest bidder. Makes you wonder if all those warnings about bad  stuff in the water are really intended to make us prefer the bottled stuff.  What, E coli didn't frighten enough people, so now we're being warned about pharmaceuticals in the water?

If our water treatment plants can't fix that, then they'd better learn how because the folks who pour it into bottles won't likely see any cost effectiveness in removing the drugs.

They're warning against flushing drugs down the toilet. Since drugs are excreted in the urine, shouldn't they be telling people not to pee?  That would save the environment before turning off the lights for a measly hour will.  Especially if during that hour we burn gas lamps or oil-depleting petroleum candles, which incidentally are also dangerous to our health.

The honey bee

Of course the people worried about petroleum candles want us to burn their beeswax candles instead.  Which is nice because they smell like honey.  But what with the bees disappearing ...

Reader John from Manitoba has sent this link with the comment:
"What is the Canadian government trying to prove. The way they are going the whole Canadian Agriculture will be ruined with pushing Terminal GMO technology. No bees no fruits and many other crops."
Upstairs
Our PM is trying to prove Canada can be a big player on the international scene and he does that by reading scripts written for him in the US while thinking about hockey.
