Re: The Recent "Attack" on
Karzai
What I found especially ironic about this ceremony to celebrate "Mujahideen Day" - a day to fete Afghanistan's independence and the beating back of the Soviet invaders - was the presence of the so-called Canadian "Ambassador" to Afghanistan Arif Lalani, a former DFAIT lackey. If Lalani believes that the actions of the mujahideen are something to celebrate he really should come to the assistance of a young man in Canada named Hassan Almrei who has been held without charge in solitary confinement for seven years first at Metro West Detention Centre in Toronto and now in "Guantanamo North" in Kingston. Why? It seems our CSIS spy agency believes Almrei is a fanatical terrorist who needs to be locked up because of the time he spent in Afghanistan in the 1980s to help fight the Soviets. Just like those brave mujahideen freedom fighters! As Matthew Behrens of The Campaign to Stop Secret Trials in Canada points out, "... when CSIS says that Hassan Almrei has been in Afghanistan, it's important to understand when and why he was there. Otherwise, given the barrage of news coverage these past few years, most people's immediate reaction would be to make the equation "Afghanistan = terrorist." Few seem to remember that following the Soviet invasion of that country, western powers including the U.S. actively recruited, trained, and funded the anti-Soviet resistance. Fewer still would either recall or know in the first place that the anti-Soviet fight was in some ways the equivalent of the Spanish Civil War for idealistic young Arabs of that generation, who went by the thousands to try and expel the Russians." Read more about Hassan Almrei here. YYC: Thanks very much for this, Brian. It's something I've known with regard to the history of Afghanistan, but I never connected it up with what Canada has done, is doing to Hassan Almrei. Website April 26th 2008

----- Original Message ----- From: Layton, Jack - M.P. Sent: Monday, April 21, 2008 3:17 PM Subject: NDP on the Durban 2009 Conference Thank you for your previous message concerning the Durban Review Conference 2009. The NDP remains steadfast in its support of UN efforts to combat racism and discrimination around the world. It was a difficult decision to decide whether or not to engage in a process on an issue our party considers to be vitally important. However when Canada participated in the Durban 2001 World Conference against Racism it drew severe criticism for promoting the kind of intolerance that the conference was purportedly organized to denounce. It has been recognized that there were some problems with the way in which the conference was structured and concern that some of the same problems that occurred at the 2001 conference would happen again in 2009. It is disturbing to think both the previous Liberal and current Conservative government failed to take a leadership role to work to ensure the problems from the first conference are not repeated. In the end, we felt it was best to not support Canada's participation. The non participation of Canada in this conference should not in any way diminish the involvement of Canada in the fight against racism, at home and abroad. I believe that it is in our national interest to have Canada demonstrate its domestic commitment to eradicating discrimination and hatred and to take a leadership role internationally to advance anti-racism goals. Canada has an obligation to comply with the provisions of the UN Covenant and to respect and fulfil the provisions of its own Canada Action Plan Against Racism. Clearly, rather than further polarization, we need to move towards greater understanding and reconciliation and that is the consistent position of our Party on some of the issues which deeply divide Canadians. Let me assure you, the NDP is deeply committed to multilateral processes and envisages an ambitious role for the United Nations in the protection of human rights and the elimination of racism. That is precisely the mandate of the UN Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination which issued a very critical report on Canada just a year ago. In my view, we would do well to focus our attention on the recommendations of that Committee which coincide with a number of priorities of the NDP federal caucus. Again, many thanks for expressing your views on this issue. Sincerely, Jack Layton, MP (Toronto-Danforth) Leader, Canada’s New Democrats YYC: Fascinatin! But not surprising. This is just one more party I don't feel like voting for. April 21st 2008

An interesting quote!!
: "I think that on balance the moral influence of religion : has been awful. With or without religion, good people can : behave well and bad people can do evil; but for good people : to do evil-that takes religion." : Steven Weinberg, Nobel Laureate, Physics YYC: Thanks for this, John. You've made me examine this popular quote more closely. It's quite true except for the final line which is faulty reasoning. Weinberg also thinks boycotting Israel amounts to anti-Semitism, which surely must be evil. Therefore, by his reasoning the boycotters must either be "bad" people or religious. But they could also be good atheists or agnostics who care about human rights and equality for all peoples. April 18th 2008

Dear friends,
I was really shocked and afraid after I read this news article. I clearly seems that it's already too late. The plan is already in place. Guess what Harper will say and I bet his "future speech" is already written, by the US intelligence that is: AFTER THE RECENT ATTACK ON ISRAEL BY IRAN, THE CANADIAN GOVERNMENT, FULLY BACKED BY ITS PEOPLE, HAS DECLARED THAT IT WILL PARTICIPATE TO THE JUST DEFENSE OF OUR FRIEND IN ISRAEL, WHO HAVE THE ABSOLUTE RIGHT TO DEFEND THEMSELVES. WE WILL WIN THAT WAR AGAINST DEMOCRACY. IT MAY TAKE YEARS BUT JUSTICE WILL PREVAIL. WE WILL HUNT THE ISLAMIC PERPETRATORS DOWN TO THE LAST. THEY WILL HIDE BUT WE WILL FIND THEM. WE WILL SMOKE THEM OUT. IT'S THE GOOD AGAINST EVIL. GOD BLESS CANADA. STEVEN HARPER Sounds familiar??????? DÉJA VU?????????66 The trap is already set. A presumably Iranian fake attack, designed with the collaboration between the US, Canada and Israel, will hit Israel. The rest is history. Remember Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, Korea, Vietnam, Guatemala, Chile and dozen more countries that were destroyed by the same predators and the same game? We can only brace. Democracy is over my friends, unless a miracle happens. Take care, Marc April 16th 2008

When
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights announced she was stepping down
many were shocked and puzzled why. Arbour said little about her
reasons. Now explosive revelations emerging from the Rwanda War Crimes
Tribunal suggest that maybe the former Tribunal Chief Prosector wished
to take herself out of the firing line.
When Arbour gave an interview to CBC recently it was responded to by the lead lawyer of the Rwanda Tribunal who alleged shocking and serious interference by Arbour. Arbour, like Romeo Dallaire have been mythologized as Canadian heroes. The reality could be very different. YYC: Thanks very much for raising this, Simone. I haven't had time to fully research it myself, but I have always been wary of officially designated "heroes". We know only what we are allowed to know at any given time. There's an interesting CBC video in which Dallaire admits he aspired to a Senate post and that a high premium is placed on "loyalty" in the Liberal Party, the party that is now virtually in coalition with the Harper right wing government. He also makes sure to stroke the media, speaking of his "faith" in them. Being a hero does not make one necessarily wise. Unwittingly or not, Dallaire supports what might one day be termed "Canadian genocide" as more and more of this country is sold off to the US. He talks about being interested in "foreign policy" which is increasingly US driven. Steeped in war culture, he also seems to think that everything can be solved militarily. April 13th 2008

Dear YYC,
I really like reading comments from people like Manitoba John (now there's a guy who really does his homework!) and Toronto Brian who is experiencing the unbelievable frustration undergone by a gazillion parents here in the usa who are asking the same questions he is and coming up short on answers just like he is. Definitely proves that a lot of your readers are still paying attention, Thank God! Next: the excerpt from the German piece is really scarey 'cause it's JUST LIKE THAT HERE IN THE usa NOW! These people are sleepwalking for the most part and the most egregious offenders of defending this garbage are the old f____ers my age that think that they think they know what they're talking about! And yeah, immigration is a knee-jerk reaction concocted to keep your people from concentrating their combined might against fixing what the real problems are in their government, just like here. "If they aint payin' attention, we might just pull this off!" As I rather sarcastically and, at that time with some dread, said once before, and you have just repeated, Welcome 51st State of the Union a.k.a. the former Canada!!! Oh yeah, just to throw a little xetra fuel on the fire; guess which side of the Bluewater Bridge challenged me for citizenship proof when the guy already had my "green card" in his hand? (only hint--not the yanks) Cool, huh? Next come the Citizenship i.d. cards (papieren, bitte), then the subdural GPS implants, then curfews and all kinds of groovy and innovative new laws to keep you all safe from the indescribably horrific scourge of the islamofascist terrorists and invaders that are, right now, coming to a TV or Theatre screen (24) near you (check your local vopos for times and listings). Well, gotta go! Have fun, y'all! (that's 'merkan slang--better get used to talkin' it now, know what I mean?) See Ya, Jack YYC: Thanks Jack. I'm glad to see John getting the appreciation he deserves. And Brian H. too. They're faithfully outspoken readers like you and I'm grateful for each and every holler. Sorry that the Milton Mayer excerpt was so unsettling (Readers see: Let them eat potatoes)April 12, but you've got the right slant on it. People think Hitler's Germans were evil; but most them were just as sleepwalkingly, myopically compliant and self-centered as anybody else. April 13th 2008

Heard about this
on cbc this morning
"The (immigration) system simply is not flexible enough to meet labour market needs," a senior official in the Department of Citizenship and Immigration told reporters. The official, who can't be named under departmental rules, said that by 2012, all of Canada's labour growth will be met through immigration. First off, why is it that government officials can make such pronouncements WITHOUT BEING NAMED! Where do we live, isn't it still CANADA ? Aren't these gov't officials in our employ? Don't we have a right to know who's blowing the smoke? Second, why is immigration always the knee jerk answer for skilled labour shortages !? My daughter is just graduating as a nurse this year and has wound up with many thousands of dollars worth of student debt over and above all the family assistance we have made available. Why on earth can't we as a country/society plan ahead and ease the burden of young (or indeed any)Canadians willing to forgo immediate employment remuneration in pursuit of useful training and qualifications. No doubt for every successful grad in her class this year there are 2 or 3 for whom the financial burdens just got too much or put them off from the outset. I think that historically, Canada has had too easy a time of it poaching skilled workers from the "old" countries and as a result have never established workable training scenarios of our own. When are we going to wake up to these responsibilites? YYC: Good points Brian. In a "civilized" country, all education should be free. Governments should want a healthy, educated, skilled citizenry. If they don't, it's a sure sign that exploitation is the name of their game, not democracy. There are even some elitist educators who don't believe everyone is entitled to an education. That would explain why the price of it keeps going up. When a country, and its places of learning are run like corporations, human factors are, of course, not considered. Big mistake, ultimately. Hello YayaCanada community. I
thought you may be interested in this series of articles I wrote. Take
care.
Brent The Next Million Years Charles Galton Darwin's 1952 book The Next Million Years attempts to give a general outline of the "future history" of mankind by using the "law of human nature". C.G. Darwin (1887-1962) was an English physicist and grandson of Charles Darwin of evolutionary fame. Despite being concerned about the over-population of the world he had four sons and one daughter with his wife Katharine Pember. The hypocrisy of this may seem odd, but the concern about over-population only refers to inferior breeds of humans and not superior breeds like himself and his lineage. C.G. Darwin was a long time member and eventual president of the Eugenic Society (1953-59) which represented the belief system held among many of the political, scientific and aristocratic elites of his day and the present. The first part in this series examines a variety of issues that C. G. Darwin envisions for the next million years of the future history of humanity including: the altering of human nature, the structure of government and the effects of globalization and computers. C. G. Darwin's views on the possibility of domesticating mankind as a whole is examined in part two. The third part in this series looks at the importance of creeds in shaping society. C. G. Darwin's desire for the implementation of eugenics to improve humanity is examined in part four. Finally, Part 5 will examine the difficulties in controlling the size of the world population as described in The Next Million Years. The Next Million Years Part 1: A Darwin's Look into The Next Million Years The Next Million Years Part 2: Can Mankind be Domesticated? The Next Million Years Part 3: The Importance of Creeds in Shaping the Future The Next Million Years Part 4: Eugenics and the Survival of Mankind The Next Million Years Part 5: Over-Population and the Sanctity of Life April 6th 2008

It
seems that the collapse of the ice cap in the Antarctic is just very
small part of the the ice cap there. It is not a sign of global warming
since it is less than .01%. As a matter of fact it, as the present cold
winter indicates, we are cooling of again, and so should the global
rhetoric.
Ice Cap Alarmists Cherry Pick Science To Fit Carbon Emissions Theory - Ice extent is actually approaching second highest level since records began YYC: Thanks, John. All this conflicting "evidence" is why I use the term "climate change" - a natural process that goes on all the time, and must be adapted to, and can't be stopped - instead of "global warming". To say that C02 is the problem and then ignore that big business is the major emitter, imposing taxes they can easily get out of, means that the very people - like Al Gore - talking about global warming are working for big business and putting the onus for whatever happens onto average citizens. The water (and ice) levels may or may not be going down, but saying that they are, and then bottling our water and selling it to well-heeled desert dwellers instead of sharing it with people suffering from artificially (corporately) produced famine is not even an attempt at a solution, and is just plain evil. Hucksters like Gore have succeeded in making average citizens very worried about global warming and yet instead of altering their own lifestyles they are expecting government to solve the problem.
