(1) Tamils Blacklisted
World Tamil Movement says it will fight blacklisting as terror group by Ottawa (CP)
In their first reply to the move by Public Safety Minister Stockwell
Day on Monday, group members said they've had their Charter rights
violated ...
Now would be a good time for Hezbollah and Hamas supporters to join the
Tamils in a class action. While they're at it, they might point out to
the government how, under both the Liberals and the Conservatives, the JNF has been favoured as a tax free charity, even
though it's in direct contravention of Canadian laws governing racist
activities.
Tamil listing is a little hasty (Gazette)
...
so far the evidence against the group is pretty thin. No WTM member has
ever been prosecuted for a crime, let alone convicted. And a major raid
on the movement's headquarters last spring has resulted in no charges
so far.
Hasty? Where do journalists go in their off hours?
Closets? It's been a bone of contention for some time that Canada has
ignored the Tamils while selectively targeting Hezbollah and Hamas.
The government has dragged its heels on the Tamils, showing a decidedly
inconsistent bent.
It was no doubt hoped that pointing out the
inconsistencies might make them rethink their position on Hamas and
Hezbollah. Instead, they've bit the bullet and blacklisted the Tamils
too.
Cutting off funding to those who organize to resist the
advance of so-called civilization (i.e. callous colonial exploitation
of land and resources) is just a cowardly form of warfare. It has
nothing to do with whether or not the groups are terrorists.
Jewish community negates rumours of Hezbollah attacks
No kidding, eh? But wasn't it a deliciously scary thrill while it
lasted? The nice part is that some people will go on believing
the rumour and CSIS will have done its job.

(2) Chuck McVety and Bill C-10
Liberal Senators will amend controversial film incentives bill (CBC)
[Senator Fox] said he doesn't believe the Tories
will make a change to a single clause a matter of confidence... "Would
the government want to destroy the Canadian film industry by making
this a confidence motion?"
Nevermind the gummint. Much depends on just how much pressure
Chucky McVety is capable of exerting. It would be interesting to
know who his handlers are because he is definitely a tool of the trend
toward fascism. Destroying the film industry is nothing
compared to what he relishes happening in these "last days". This video
is him to a tee. He says there'd be peace if we stopped attacking
each other - yet he's the one attacking the Canadian film industry in
the only, and sneakiest, way open to him.

(3) Tasers Banned? Hardly!
Ban Tasers if RCMP doesn't curb use by year's end: Commons committee (CBC)
"We want them to change for the better — to
restrict the use, have better training, better reporting, better data
collection so Canadians are safe and protected and the RCMP and other
police forces have the tools they need"
Oh, they will, they will. It'll all be taken care of and
documented, you'll see. Anybody who gets zapped will be accused
of attacking first. Oh, well, that's allright then. And there will be
witnesses. You'll see.

(4) Doctor shortage - some people don't care
Millions have no family doctor: StatsCan (SudburyStar)
Thirteen per cent of residents in the Sudbury area don't have a family doctor, according to a new report by Statistics Canada.
Give it up, already. Having doctors and having medicines has not
made Canadians healthy. Not even the doctors are healthy.
Canadians are in the same boat, or worse, as when there were no doctors
- the diseases just have fancier names, is all. The country is on
a suicide mission, gorging on fast foods, vegging in front of the tube,
drinking way too much alcohol, driving way too fast and erratically
and, apparently, allowing untold damage to their kids in the form of
vaccines, unhealthy diets, and wireless everything.
Stop buying radiation (ProLiberty)
(Thanks to Barb)
The day will come when someone else’s second-hand
radiation will be even more unwelcome than second hand tobacco smoke...
Should we not practice self restraint by eliminating frivolous wireless
communication, stop playing wireless games and use wired phones instead
to safeguard a healthy future? ... Wireless radiation is not only
neurotoxic and carcinogenic, but also grossly teratogenic (causes the
abnormal development of the embryo). Scientists across the globe are
warning about the potential of wireless microwaves to cause horrific
damage to sperm, ova and fetuses.

(5) "Defending the Afghan pipeline
Canadians could be defending Afghan gas pipeline (CTV)
(See alsoJohn's post in the Guestbook on June 19)
A
U.S-backed pipeline would be an inviting target for the Taliban and al
Qaeda operatives in Afghanistan, and the planned project would run
directly through Kandahar, the volatile region that Canada has promised
to defend through 2011.
The media
are just figuring this out now. But every other protest sign has
been saying it since Canada entered the war. Of course, when protesters say it, it's
just a "conspiracy theory".
The Canadian government has spent billions on Afghanistan and spent
massive political capital convincing the public of the need to stay in
the war-torn country, he said in the report. So why no mention of the
pipeline? ... It's clear the pipeline would be a boon for Afghanistan's
economy. It is estimated the project would bring in $160 million
annually for the country's coffers -- a considerable sum for the impoverished country.
The project would also create much needed construction-related jobs.
The pipeline could even help stabilize the region as it could force
co-operation between the Afghan, Pakistani and Indian governments. Clearly, there is a strong argument that the defence of
the pipeline should be an essential part of the Canadian mission.
Ask the regular folks in places like Burma and Sudan
if the pipelines were a boon to them. The owners make deals with the
governments for workers, and they take no responsibility for how it's
accomplished. Pipelines in ravaged countries are just another form of
sweatshop.
But in his speech when he visited Canada, John McCain said Canada is "defending" Afghanistan.

(6) Dangerous Israel
Iran says Israel a "dangerous regime" (Star)
...
after a U.S. report the Jewish state had carried out a large military
exercise, apparently a rehearsal for a potential bombing of Iran's
nuclear facilities.
So say also a lot of other people.
Especially when an Israel government minister says that war with Iran
is "unavoidable", as if it really were.

(7) Religious influence in America
In case you were wondering:
Religions in the American Congress
And for those who think the Israel lobby is doing all the work:
Israel's broad American base (IHT)
The
above article suggests that maybe if the Palestinians stopped with the
Qassams, things might improve. But not if the Armageddon enthusiasts
have their way. Their motto is pretty much "this is the Land of Israel
and Jesus who loves everybody is returning here, so Arabs get lost or
we'll make you wish you had."
McCain's full speech to the Economic Club
Not a campaign speech, no, no. But "if I'm elected president ..."
Doesn't it strike you that something has seriously changed when an American presidential candidate campaigns in Canada?
