Nbc6: Exclusive: FBI Paid Informants In Suspected Terror Group  Batiste then grew suspicious of the confidential witness because, according to the document, he asked Batiste too many questions and asked him to write down his mission. It appears the FBI's man on the inside was trying to get Batiste to document his own criminal conduct, which would have supplemented incriminating evidence in videotaped meetings and recorded phone calls.
YYC:  See the video on the same page. Their lawyer is asking the same questions I've been asking of all these cases.  Who offered them $50,000, who said they could supply them with guns, who was it that made contact with these individuals - everything pointed to the FBI.
     A "local leader" says:
this is a case of "the government manufacturing a potential conspiracy incident in order to justify the massive violations of civil liberties they're carrying out."

The informants are very likely people desperate to carry out a deal with the police, both for the cash and to save their own hides from their own misdeeds.  They would use any dishonest means to make it look like these guys were serious about terrorism.
Batiste grew suspicious because he was being pushed too hard.  But was he also being threatened with harm when the cameras weren't rolling?  At the best of times, young Black guys in the US are afraid of what the police can do to them.  They would very likely try to make it look as if they were cooperating, and hope they could somehow extricate themselves at some point.
Interesting that the informant asked Batiste to write down his mission.  Was that after telling him what his mission was to be?  That gives me an idea.
How to set up a bunch of kids as "terrorists": Suggest they could earn cash working with the FBI to catch terrorists, if they do well on a test. Give them a script to follow - possible questions and possible answers, possible scenarios.  Get them to play parts and rehearse their act.  Tape the whole thing and then turn them in.  Especially turn them in quickly if one of them, like Batiste, shows signs of suspicion he is being set up.
One also has to consider what kind of pressure is being put on the FBI to be seen to round up terrorists.  Will they do anything to save their jobs?  Did Porter Goss, for instance, get drummed out as head of the CIA because he couldn't tighten the thumb screws hard enough and still keep order?

DuluthSuperior: Florida terror case likely to rely on role of government informant
In many respects, the case of the Liberty City seven resembles other recent terrorism cases from Hollywood to New York to California: an informant infiltrates a group of anti-American zealots and records - or even encourages - their violent plans ... the closest the group got to Osama Bin Laden was an FBI informant posing as an "al-Qaida representative."

Reuters: Miami bomb plot suspects "entrapped," lawyers say
With respect to my client, from what I can read in the indictment, there's going to be a question of whether there's even sufficient evidence to sustain the burden of proof on conviction," Clarke said. "If by any chance there's a scintilla of that then, of course, there's going to be the entrapment issue," he said. "This thing took place over eight months, according to the indictment and at the end of the indictment, it says that this thing became disorganized and nobody had ever done anything or did anything," Clarke said.

From Prison Planet - January 5, 2006
In February of 2002 Silverstein Properties won $861 million from Industrial Risk Insurers to rebuild on the site of WTC 7. Silverstein Properties' estimated investment in WTC 7 was $386 million. This building's collapse alone resulted in a profit of about $500 million.  How concerned should we be therefore that Silverstein Properties bought the lease from MetLife for Chicago's Sears Tower in March 2004?
YYC:  Written in January, and rather prophetic when you think of it.  Somebody from "al Qaeda" was trying hard to talk the Chicago 7 into blowing up Larry's new acquisition.  One might think "al Qaeda" knew Larry personally, or something.
Larry's not a fast thinker, or else doesn't know how to use a computer and wasn't aware how much the rest of us have learned about controlled demolition and how it takes a lot of involved preparation before a building is ready to be demolished, so it took him two years to come up with the explanation that "pull it" doesn't mean "bring the building down", it means "get the non-existent firefighters out of there in case it comes down all by itself from the thermite we stuck in all the crannies".

Very interesting New York Times article about the Chicago 7.  Turns out these "terrorists" were just as incapable of carrying out their alleged goals as the Toronto boys.  Also turns out that it was the informant who was going to buy their boots for them!!  One of the Toronto 17 is an informant and it isn't the one they want us to think.
Clearly, Batiste was not as good at organizing a terrorist group as the informant was pressuring him to be, so he was actually using a stalling tactic similar to fending off a debt collector when he said that "he was experiencing delays because of various problems within his organization" but still hoped to continue his mission of building an "Islamic army" to wage jihad against the United States.
Were the Chicago 7 and the Toronto 17 put between a rock and a hard place, afraid of the "Al Qaeda" instigator and afraid of the police at the same time?  If so, then they had nothing to do with the ordering of any supplies - boots, fatigues, fertilizer - and their discussions about targets were merely attempts to humour a very aggressive operative.
This has very grave implications for the road down which our society seems to be travelling.  It seems clear that government heavies are pressuring the police and military intelligence to turn up terrorists and keep the bogeymen fresh and clear in the minds of the public to thereby justify the oil wars.  If the secret police are unable to locate real terrorists, they will stoop to dirty tactics to comply, especially if budget cuts are threatened.
For people who think conspiracies are impossible because too many people are involved - just think what you might allow yourself to be encouraged to do to keep your paycheque.  And then think about how willing you'd be to keep your mouth shut once you had complied because, after all, you wouldn't want to squeal on yourself, would you?
As for what the Chicago 7's neighbours eagerly prated on about to the cameras and mics, just as with the neighbours of the Toronto group that nonsense can be safely discounted. "Christian and Muslim beliefs" represented by a uniform "bearing a Star of David"?  Comeon, give us a break!  If these people had any credibility at all they would be listed as witnesses and would be kept from talking to the press.

If the London bombers had lived, would we have found out that secret service informant supplied the back packs?
