They are being questioned under controversial new laws ... amid suspicion that among the 14 there is a mentor figure who is radicalising and training young men in preparation for terrorist acts... Counter terrorism sources indicated that the operation on Friday had not been carried out to thwart any alleged bomb plot, but because of suspicions that the suspects were running training weekends to radicalise young men. YYC: The new, controversial terrorism law that allows police to hold people for 28 days with no charges effectively gives them the right to harass and humiliate Muslims not only in their homes in the dead of night, but also in public places. Keep this up and there will soon be restaurants and employment agencies with signs that say, "Non-Muslims only". Is London headed toward the type of apartheid that US non-Afro-Americans once enjoyed? About that "mentor figure" ... a little "spook"y, wouldn't you say? Customers who included a group of young men, some wearing traditional Islamic dress, were questioned by police for hours before a number were taken away. YYC: Can't help wondering how many "hours" and what being "questioned" entailed. But it does seem as if all the Muslims in London are in the terrorist business and are eating up all the Chinese food. Dramatic, eh what? - tactical teams in riot gear storming a packed restaurant. That ought to raise the terror levels considerably. I don't think "severe" is high enough, do you? "Critical" is so much more ER, don't you think? London is on the "critical list". Gasp. Oh no! Racism and religious intolerance have certainly been bumped up a few notches by all of these "foiled plots". And now a Moroccan caper involving security forces and wives of pilots shows "that Islamic extremism is moving out of the North African kingdom's slums and into the middle class". They should look on the bright side - their riots squads will get to storm a better class of restaurant. But that's hardly the American way.
